For immediate release: May 22, 2008 For additional information contact: George Stuart 373-5204 or 355-5304 (cell) Mat-Su teachers ratify new two-year agreement More than 930 teachers and other educators of the 1,150-member Mat-Su Education Association expressed their opinion on a tentative agreement reached between MSEA and the school district. Despite certain concerns, members gave the proposed contract a strong vote of approval. “We believe our members evaluated the tentative agreement carefully and considered several key factors,” said MSEA President George Stuart. Among them: • The contract language and economic package represent modest but fair gains. • MSEA’s bargaining team and leadership recommended approval of the tentative agreement. • MSEA’s members and leaders want to continue working closely with the school board and administration to maintain the best schools and programs in Alaska. “We’re pleased to get this behind us,” said Stuart. “We’ll look forward to the new school year and moving forward together to again provide an excellent education for the children of the Mat-Su.” 373-5204
